KT Connects: Knowledge translation webinar series


The Michael Smith Foundation of Health Research and Arthritis Research Canada have partnered to co-develop and host a series of monthly expert-led, beginner-level KT training webinars with the goal of developing a sustainable resource for researchers and trainees to learn knowledge and skills that will enable them to develop KT practice in their work.


This webinar is co-presented with the BC SUPPORT Unit.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the various meanings of the term patient engagement
  • Appreciate how engaging patients as partners in health research can contribute to more effective knowledge translation and increase the likelihood that research will lead to positive changes in policy and practice.

Bio:

Colleen McGavin is the Patient Engagement Lead for the BC SUPPORT Unit. In this capacity, she is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Unit's patient engagement strategy. Before becoming involved in health research, she taught courses in business for 25 years at Camosun College in Victoria. Colleen has extensive experience as a cancer patient and family caregiver and, since 2010, has been a volunteer with Patient Voices Network, lending her voice to a variety of quality improvement efforts. She is also a patient partner on several health research teams, helping to shape the research to ensure it reflects problems that are of concern to patients and that measure outcomes that matter to patients.
